Portrait Photograph

In this photograph, there is a young woman gazing off into the distance, and poses a look of conflict in her features as she contemplates something. She is sitting and the background is shaded in light. The work is  figurative. The photo was shot from a frontal position wherein the model is posed toward the left facing the light resulting in a shadow cased across the right side of her face. This image creates complexity in an otherwise plain piece. The image is in focus in order to accurately display her conflicted features.  I  was tying to convey an image of conflict and contemplation where the subject is adversely facing toward the light, however some small image of darkness is following her and making her wonder. The white background poses to strengthen the meaning of the piece and the focus on the subject. Overall, I believe the meaning of my piece was lost in its simplicity, and with a stronger stance or pose on the models part, the message would have been more prominent.

Contact Sheet

I shot the photos labeled "CN". Victoria Van, Roanne Torres, and Jiane R. were in my group.
In the first photo, I wanted to capture the elements of emphasis and lines through the flower and the palm leaf. Subsequentually, I took a photo of the steps in fron tof the grande theatre in order to emphasize lines and unity. Lastly, I wanted to convey isolation through the photos I took of Roanne and Victoria, while also conveying balance, variety, and texture.

Portrait of Bloggers by Computer Light (Current ARTicle)

A. What do you guys think about the lighting and portraits?
I found that the light was very front of the face in order to highlight the bloggers profile rather than the surrounding setting.  The rooms where usually dark with the exception to additional lighting from a hall light, or television set, and of course their laptops. In various photos, the colors of red and blue are very prominent and highlight along side the bloggers' faces, as well as setting pieces like a couch, refridgerator, and other homely items.

B. How could you apply some of the lighting techniques to this class?
I would have to do more frontal lighting and a add a bigger contrast in dark versus light setting, along side diverse light positioning.

C. Everybody is blogging, tweeting, updating statuses, checking in, tumbling, how can this be beneficial to the art community?
The internet involvement in at is beneficial in the sense that new artwork is spread across the world faster and more and more people can access it. The more access people of different backgrounds have to various artworks, the more opinions an artist can be subjected to and there are more opportunities for exposure into the Art world.

This was my favorite due to the utilization of the red wall in contrast to the dark lighting. It also accomplishes the task of highlighting the blogger himself, and the lighting adds to the serious tone of the photo and his posture.

Photo Book Assignment

On this page I chose to extend the idea of the swirling lines with charcoal in order to emulate chaos and internal feelings of indecisiveness, which are also conveyed through the words, "hurt and despair" and "I'm drifting away".
I included text from Romeo and Juliet because I loved the play and I love to read in general so I wanted to represent that through this text. I also included some B&W photos I took of myself. friends and family. The included patterns added to the texture of the page and bring out the them of B&W.
I included a page with a mix tape in order to convey my love for music and writing lyrics. I also included a photo I took in regards to isolation wherein I am represented as an individual and independent in my music and in life.

Art Show- Samantha Allard

1.  I found a particular piece by Samantha Allard, a freshman at SCPA, whom was inspired to draw the picture of a teenage girl through one of her favorite photographer.
2.The composition of the piece is done in watercolors, green and yellow, and black pen. The teenager is centered and she is drawn from the waist up and she has a look of solitude on her face.
3. I believe that Allard was trying to convey a sense of solitude and singularity by have a background swirled with colors of light green and yellow around the subject making the girl the center of attention.
